This policy explains what personal information Learn With AutoDrive collects, how we use it and what rights you have. It covers this website (learnwithautodrive.co.uk) and enquiries and bookings for driving lessons.
Who we are
Learn With AutoDrive is an automatic driving school based at Forrester Park Gardens, Edinburgh EH12 9AB. We are the data controller for the information described in this policy. You can contact us about privacy at learnwithautodrive@gmail.com or on 07859 294532.
What information we collect
- Enquiries. Your name, email address, subject and message when you use our contact form, and your phone number and anything else you tell us when you call, email or message us on WhatsApp.
- Bookings and lessons. The details we need to provide lessons, such as your pick-up address, availability, provisional driving licence details, lesson and payment records, and notes on your progress.
- Website use. Technical information collected when you browse the site, such as your IP address, device and browser type, the pages you visit and how you arrived. See the Cookies section below.
We do not ask for sensitive information through the website. If you choose to tell us about a health condition or anything else that affects your lessons, we use it only to plan your tuition safely.
How we use your information
Under UK data protection law we must have a lawful basis for using your information. We use it:
- to reply to your enquiry and arrange lessons (steps taken at your request before a contract, and performance of our contract with you);
- to provide your lessons, keep in touch about bookings and record payments (performance of our contract with you);
- to keep business, tax and accounting records (legal obligation);
- to understand how the website is used so that we can improve it (our legitimate interest in running the site well);
- to deal with complaints, disputes or safety concerns (our legitimate interests and, where relevant, legal claims).
We only contact you about your enquiry, your booking or your lessons. We do not sell your information or pass it to anyone else for their marketing, and we do not make automated decisions about you.
Who we share it with
We share information only where it is needed to run the business:
- Google, which provides our email (Gmail), website statistics (Google Analytics), the map on our contact page (Google Maps) and the fonts used on the site (Google Fonts);
- Hostinger, which hosts this website;
- WhatsApp (Meta), if you choose to message us there;
- professional advisers such as an accountant, and public bodies such as HMRC, the DVSA or the police, where the law requires it or it is needed to run the business properly.
These providers handle information under their own terms and privacy policies. Some of them, including Google and Meta, may process information outside the UK. Where that happens they rely on safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not lead to a booking: up to 12 months.
- Learner and lesson records: while you are learning with us and for up to 6 years afterwards, to meet tax, accounting and legal requirements.
- Website statistics: for the period set in our Google Analytics account, which is no longer than 14 months.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. This website uses:
- Essential cookies and storage that the site needs to work, for example to keep it secure and load pages quickly;
- Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics (such as
_ga), which tell us in aggregate how many people visit and which pages they read. They last for up to two years; - Third-party content. The Google Map on our contact page is provided by Google, which may set its own cookies when the map loads.
We do not use advertising cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can stop Google Analytics recording your visits with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The site links to our Facebook, X, TikTok and WhatsApp pages; those services only receive information about you if you click through to them.
Learners under 18
Many of our learners are 17. We are happy to deal with a parent or guardian about bookings and payment for anyone under 18, and we collect only the information needed to provide lessons.
Keeping your information secure
We limit access to your information to those who need it, keep it in password-protected accounts and devices, and serve this website over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. No system is completely secure, so if you think your information has been misused, please tell us straight away.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information where we no longer need it;
- ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our using it;
- ask for your information in a portable format;
- withdraw any consent you have given.
To use any of these rights, email learnwithautodrive@gmail.com. There is no charge and we will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last changed.
